i think its pretty disrespectful of the bookies given our current prices being offered. Maybe Les should ask a few relatives or friends ,who have nothing to do with the football club, to put some rather large bets on at the silly prices they are offering and when we take them to the cleaners have the pitch /ground improvements paid courtesy of our friendly bookies .

Even the odds of 1/7 of us reaching the top five looks a dead cert the way the season is progressing.(for those not in the know that would mean for every 7 pound you invest you win a pound...better than the interest rates some banks offer )

Since no club has won more games than us and no-one has scored as many goals as us and County can win more points than anyone else now can, those odds do look remarkably generous.

I've no issue with us being 5th favourites I think that's about right but it's all very close and how can we be 7/1 and the team in 5th basically 2/1? That's a huge jump! Blue square bet got us at 9/2 which seems a tiny bit generous but I'd say 4/1 about right. Not sure how Grimsby are ahead of Wrexham in the betting though. Bookies not often very wrong and they seem really scared by Grimsby.

Its simply down to how much money is being attracted Bush. County obviously not attracting much support with Sky Bet. Iv already had a fair sized each way bet on us but couldnt resist having another 20 quid on us at the odds they are offering. Any money i win will be put into a pot to allow me to get to more games next season because its a tad pricey to travel down to home games so it will help a lot :) :)

Newport County extended their winning run to five games to maintain their promotion challenge with a 1-0 win at Ewen Fields against relegation-threatened Hyde FC

They obviously thought we were robbed by Kevin Johnson too.

I never wrote any of the above

I get it now they said we had won 5 but its only 4

An insight into how the bookies analyse clubs chances is given in the NLP today. Blue Square have calculated the average position in the current league table for the opponents of the 5 clubs still in realistic contention for the title. The results are (rounded to the nearest whole number) :-

Wrexham's opponents are on average 11th in the table.
Kidderminster 12th.
Mansfield 11th.
County 13th.
Grimsby 11th.

So this simple test shows that County have the easiest run-in. But County have more away games to play than the others. Splitting the overall number into home and away gives:-

Wrexham 10th and 12th.
Kidderminster 15th and 9th.
Mansfield 13th and 10th
County 10th and 14th.
Grimsby 10th and 12th.

So County have the easiest away programme. In theory!

I agree with Worksop Amber. Though run in will play a part, the money invested plays a larger part so the bookies ensure they win regardless of who wins title. Given some of the negativity on this board, it wouldn't surprise me if our odds were a result of less money riding on us.

They seem to have failed to factor in the fact that we are pretty good away from home and have the best win percentage (64%) of any of the top 5 away from home.

Wrexham's is 55%, Kidderminster's 47%, Mansfield's 50% and Grimsby's 35% (they do draw a lot though).

So hopefully that win percentage will continue against the supposedly weaker sides we have to play away.
